Our mission in brief
Our mission is to protect, preserve, and promote the cultural, culinary, and historical heritage associated with Sal Meijer, founder of the renowned butcher shop and sandwich shop in Amsterdam.
We want to document and present his life's work with integrity, free from commercial interests.
The foundation safeguards the historical context, collects and makes archive material available, and promotes knowledge about the significance of Sal Meijer within Dutch and Jewish cultural history.
History
Sal Meijer opened his sandwich shop in Amsterdam in 1959. What began as a small business grew into a place with special social and cultural significance.
The business became a meeting place and a household name, partly due to craftsmanship, hospitality and quality.
This history forms the foundation of the foundation and is recorded by us through photos, documents, menus and stories from that time.
No connection with current exploitation
The foundation wishes to clarify that it has no legal, business, or organizational ties whatsoever with the current company operating under the name Sal Meijer. The Meijer family distances itself from the current commercial use of Sal Meijer's name, image, and quotes.
The Sal Meijer Heritage Foundation focuses exclusively on heritage protection and historical documentation.
